Technical Safety

Safety can be improved over all phases of a project, from concept selection through to operations. Genesis provides a comprehensive range of Technical Safety services that support safe performance of a facility over its entire lifecycle.

Our strength lies in the ability to manage and identify hazards at all stages of a project, and propose preventative measures. The effectiveness of Technical Safety work is increased by working in an integrated manner with all the design disciplines promoting a two-way flow of information.

We follow a structured hazard and risk management process to demonstrate and document how hazards are identified, evaluated and controlled. The core elements of this process are:

  • Identification and ranking of hazards (HAZID, I-HAZID, HAZOP, What If, etc)
  • Determination of major accident hazards (MAH), such as bowties, LOPA
  • Comprehensive evaluation of risks from, major accident hazards, including:
    • Fire and Explosion Consequence and Risk Analysis (FERA)
    • Non Flammables Hazards Analysis (NFHA)
    • Ship Collision and Dropped Objects (SCA, DOA)
    • Escape, Evacuation and Rescue Analysis (EERA)
    • Emergency Systems Survivability Assessment (ESSA)
    • Smoke and Gas Ingress Analysis (SGIA)
    • Temporary Refuge and Impairment Assessment (TRIA)
    • Quantitative Risk Analysis (QRA)
  • Identification and analysis of risk reduction measures and associated benefits
  • Safety Integrity Level (SIL) Assessment, including LOPA and SIL verification
  • Safety Critical Elements (SCE) and Performance Standards (PS)
  • Documentation of safety performance (ALARP demonstration, Formal Safety Assessment, Safety Case)
